He gave life to teenage cavemen and candy-stripe nurses. Crab monsters and humanoids from the deep. T-bird gangs and towns that dreaded sundown. His name is Roger Corman. And on Nov. 14, he will receive an honor that no one would have predicted: an honorary Academy Award. The 83-year-old B-movie titan has made nearly 400 films as a director and producer. From the start, Corman was a magnet for hungry young actors, writers, and directors who would work for slave wages for the chance to make their first film. They called it the "University of Corman," and the alumni include Francis Ford Coppola, »

Veteran's Day brought no shortage of veteran appreciation today in Twitter-Wood, prompting thanks and memories from across the board, as well as a personal note from "Twilight" actor Gil Birmingham.
Meanwhile, Jason Schwartzman's on his way to the NYC debut of "Fantastic Mr. Fox," which as a Wes Anderson follower, I am anxious to see myself this weekend. Another new release, "Precious," really got a hold of Tyrese Gibson, who said the film's been keeping him awake. Check out their thoughts along with pictures from Peter Facinelli and John Stamos and a Henry Winkler autograph to be jealous of after the jump. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for November 11, 2009.

Lo Bosworth made time for a good cause yesterday, stopping by the La Public Library for Jumpstart's Read for the Record Program. For lunch she met up with Kristin Cavallari, who traded in her bikini for jean shorts and laughed big while on the set of The Hills. These two are the only Laguna Beach alumni still left on the MTV reality show, but that doesn't mean there's no drama between them. Whether or not Kristin is reinvigorating the show like she promised, Lo could have some new projects on her horizon - Lc is eyeing her for the lead in the upcoming La Candy movie. Uma Thurman is now attached to a new comedy called Ceremony, a film that she'll make first before moving on to the drama Girl Soldier.
In Ceremony, Thurman plays an older woman that is about to walk down the aisle. A younger man (played by Sky High's Michael Angarano) falls in love with Thurman's character and threatens to derail her wedding.

Uma Thurman has signed on to star in the comedy, Ceremony, which marks the directorial debut of prodigious whippersnapper, Max Winkler.More on the Son Of Fonz later. Let’s talk about the movie first. It’ll star Michael Angarano – last seen being holding his own with Jet Li and Jackie Chan in The Forbidden Kingdom – as a young man who falls in love with Thurman’s older woman. That’s problem no. 1.Problem no. 2 is that she’s about to get married, presumably in the Ceremony of the title. Which could complicate things a tad.Sounds like a Graduate-style comedy to us – and if it’s half as good as The Graduate, then it’ll be twice as good as most of the comedies coming down the pike in the next 12 months. And now to Winkler – as you might have guessed, he’s the son of Henry Winkler, and »

We can hope against hope that Henry Winkler will be playing Barry Zuckerkorn when the Arrested Development movie finally, finally starts shooting. But hey, the Fonz can't just sit around forever and wait for Mitch Hurwitz to get his act together, so he's jetting off to Canada to star in Running Mates, a comedy directed by Thomas Michael. DJ Qualls, who was the one thing I didn't absolutely loathe about All About Steve, has also signed on, according to THR. Winkler will play the incumbent mayor in a town where two childhood best friends (Archie Fenton and Paolo Mancini) are running against each other for the spot, while Qualls plays a local kid with the unfortunate nickname "One Ball." Filming is currently happening in Ontario. »

Blu-Ray Review
Directed by: Frank Coraci
Cast: Adam Sandler, Kathy Bates, Henry Winkler
Running Time: 1 hr 30 mins
Rating: PG-13
Due Out: August 4, 2009
Plot: A losing football team enlists its gentle yet aggressively sensitive water boy (Sandler) Bobby Boucher to boost their defense and team morale.
Who’s It For? Most obviously, anyone who can appreciate the zanier side of Adam Sandler. But the inclusion of notable figures from the football world, like Bill Cowher and Jimmy Johnson, will entertain sports fans alike.
Movie:
Fitting nicely into a classic triumvirate consisting of Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, Adam Sandler’s The Waterboy is another proud moment in his comedic career that makes the most out of a paper thin premise. The humor is successfully wacky, especially with the full support of seasoned faces likes Winkler and Bates. The memorable characters of The Waterboy even make the goofy movie a bit endearing, »

Chicago – You won’t find the kind of diversity that exists in HollywoodChicago.com’s Blu-Ray Round-Up too many places online. Where else can modern sci-fi mingle with quarter-century-old genre product and hang out with Oscar winners and slapstick comedies? Nowhere.
The Round-Up is our regular informational column about titles that may have slipped under your radar just because they haven’t been on the cover of Entertainment Weekly or in the point-of-purchase slot at your local Blu-Ray store. Today’s edition of the Round-Up is particularly impressive with a massive comedy hit from Adam Sandler, a sci-fi cult classic, a great new TV show, and the film that made Billy Bob Thornton a star.
“Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead” was released on July 28th, 2009.

Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, I Love You Man) has joined the cast of The Adventurer's Handbook. In February, Jonah Hill and his friend/writing partner Max Winkler (yes, Henry Winkler's son) sold a spec screenplay, originally titled Adventurer's Club, for a seven figure deal to Universal, with Lonely Island/SNL Digital Shorts/Hot Rod director Akiva Schaffer attached to direct. The story "centers on four 20-something guys who, inspired by a book [Mick Conefrey's non fiction handbook], set out overseas in search of a mysterious location described in the book." It has been described as "an edgy, broad comedy" likely to be R-rated. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Segel will play one of the four friends, "a talented musician who never got his act together, becoming a backup piano player and an alcoholic." Hill plays an "engineer, isolated from his family," and Jason Schwartzman will play "a spoiled and cowardly three-time Grammy winner. »

Director Zwick will serve his first term on the Board of Governors for the next year.
He'll join Martha Coolidge and Curtis Hanson as the third governor representing the branch.
Zwick's election battle with Cates made history - it was the first time in Academy history that there was a tie in the balloting.

Last April, Fox aired promos that conceded that the network was sorry for cancelling Arrested Development. And, as a result, they were presenting a new series from Mitch Hurwitz, Sit Down, Shut Up.
Sit Down, Shut Up revolves around the dysfunctional faculty and staff at a high school in a small fishing town in Florida. The animated show features the voice talents of Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, Will Forte, Tom Kenny, Nick Kroll, Kristin Chenoweth, Cheri Oteri, Kenan Thompson, and Henry Winkler.
Though there were big expectations, few people felt like it measured up and not many watched the animated show. It was pulled after four weeks on the air.
Now, Fox has made plans to bring the series back, at least for a little while anyway. They'll be airing at midnight on Saturday nights beginning September 12th. Repeats of Talkshow with Spike Feresten will precede the animated episodes.

Tom Hanks, who played a significant role in ending the standoff between the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the Association of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) this year, will once again represent actors on the board of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the group that hands out the annual Oscar awards. After a year-long absence from the board, Hanks will be joining incumbent actors-branch board members Annette Bening and Henry Winkler. Edward Zwick and Gil Cates, who sought to represent the directors' branch, wound up in a rare tie and will face a runoff election on July 29. »

Illustration by Tim Sheaffer. Son of the Fonz Makes Good Max Winkler is the son of Henry Winkler. Henry Winkler was the biggest star in the world of television for a good chunk of the 1970s, when Happy Days was up there in the ratings. Everybody was saying, “Aaaaaaayyy!” And, as I recall, the kids from my second marriage even had Fonzie lunchboxes. Anyhoots, now Max is making his papa proud as a screenwriter. He’s sold a coupla spec scripts and it looks like he’s gonna get the chance to direct one of his own, called Ceremony. For a very early look at the Winkler fils oeuvre, check out this link from an extremely cool little blog site called Script Shadow. Ceremony, an up-coming Michael Angarano film, may just become a six-degrees of The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Runaways star Kristen Stewart project. Says The Hollywood Reporter, Michael Angarano has signed on and Jesse Eisenberg is in negotiations to star in "Ceremony," a comedy from Nala Films on which Max Winkler is making his feature directorial debut. Jason Reitman and Daniel Dubiecki are exec producing. The indie film, which is being produced by Darlene Caamano Loquet and Emilio Diez Barroso along with former Warner Independent Pictures president Polly Cohen Johnsen and Matt Spicer, is very much of the Next Gen mold: Winkler is the son of actor Henry Winkler, and Reitman is the Oscar-nominated filmmaker son of Ivan Reitman. Two of my favorite indie youngin's are Michael Angarano and Jesse Eisenberg. What's not to like? Angarano stole our hearts as the young William in Almost Famous, and has since popped up in Dear Wendy, Lords of Dogtown, and One Last Thing. Eisenberg, meanwhile, he started things off with the ever-excellent Roger Dodger, and continued on to The Squid and the Whale, The Education of Charlie Banks, and Adventureland (with Angarano's main squeeze, Kristen Stewart). Now the dudes are combining for some sweet indie fare together.
The Hollywood Reporter posts that Angarano has signed on and Eisenberg is circling a new comedy called Ceremony. The film will follow a young guy (Eisenberg) who falls head over heels for an older woman (Elizabeth Berkeley again!?!?) who is getting ready to get hitched. Guillermo del Toro isn't the only one mentoring up-and-coming filmmakers - Jason Reitman is doing the same, too. Reitman will produce a comedy called Ceremony which will be the directorial debut of Max Winkler. Michael Angarano (Snow Angels) and Jesse Eisenberg (Adventureland) are signing on to play the two friends that the film is about. When one of them (Eisenberg) falls for an older woman about to be married, he drags along his friend (Angarano) to a beach town in an effort to break up the wedding. Upon arriving, they quickly realize just how out of place they are among the British groom-to-be and his guests. Max is the son of actor Henry Winkler; he helped write the upcoming Jonah Hill comedy The Adventurer's Handbook and directed the web series Clark and Michael starring Michael Cera and Clark Duke. "Jason encouraged me to write this movie," Winkler told THR. "His »
