Eva Mendes has turned her back on fur after learning how animals are killed for their pelts - and now she's fronting a hard-hitting new PETA video about the horrors of the trade.
The sexy star admits she once wore fur to a Hollywood event, but she'll never repeat her mistake.
And, by way of repenting, she's hosting a new Internet expose about the fur industry.
The film includes the latest investigation of fur farms and markets in China, the world's largest fur exporter.
Mendes tells WENN, "Millions of animals are killed for their pelts each year... I didn't always know how animals were killed for their fur, and I even wore fur once myself.
"When I learned how cruel the fur industry is - and that there are no laws protecting these animals - I swore that I'd never wear it again. Please join me today as we go behind the scenes of the international fur trade, and find out how you can look glamorous without supporting animal suffering."
Mendes admits she has become a leading celebrity animal rights advocate after her pet dog Hugo came into her life.
She explains, "It literally changed my life, getting my dog. Every choice that I make, I always think about my little Hugo and think, 'God, would I eat him? Would I cage him up? Would I skin him?' No, of course not."
Mendes joins a growing list of celebrities fronting various PETA anti-fur campaigns - they include Charlize Theron, Christina Applegate, Roselyn Sanchez, Pamela Anderson, Nia Long, and Christy Turlington. »

An avid supporter of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Eva Mendes helps the organization exposing the animal cruelty behind fur trade in a bid to urge people to stop wearing fur. In a video, for which she lends her voice to give detailed explanation about the issue, she is quoted as stating, "Millions of animals are killed for their pelts each year. ... The thing is, I didn't always know how animals were killed for their fur, and I even wore fur once myself. But when I learned how cruel the fur industry is - and that there are no laws protecting these animals - I swore that I'd never wear it again."
The movie siren goes on explaining how trappers usually strangle, beat, or stomp animals to death in order to avoid damaging their fur. Worse, some animals are even skinned alive or have their throats cut while they are still conscious. »

Good Hair Directed by: Jeff Stilson Starring: Chris Rock, Nia Long, Ice-t, Al Sharpton, Maya Angelou, Eve, Tracie Thoms I have more rap albums than I have black friends on Facebook, and I don't have that many rap albums. There is and has always been a lot of black culture that I can only understand so much, but I never really thought about hair's role. It seems so simple - you grow it, you dye it, you straighten it, you comb it - hair just happens, and I had never bothered to think about dreadlocks or cornrows or even afros beyond the stylistic choice. With this in mind, I was confused about who Good Hair is targeted to. Is it an expose of controversial issues to spur change within the black community, or is it just opening the door into a world someone like me knows nothing about? The premise »

Before Good Hair, my only exposure to weaves was when a girl fight ended in hair ripped from a belligerent head and with me standing nearby wondering what just happened. Admittedly ignorant on the subject, I was surprisingly engaged by this documentary’s informative interviews and good-natured charm that entertains regardless of gender or race.
Director Jeff Stilson takes a subject as simple as hair and expands it into a frequently funny discussion about culture, fashion, and obsession while following comedian Chris Rock’s comical quest for knowledge.
Rock has directed a couple narrative films starring himself, but this time he executive produces, hosts, and narrates a comprehensive examination of African-American style; from the roots of attraction to the frayed edges of competitive cutting. Curious after his 5-year-old’s questions about “good hair,” he travels the country to salons, barbershops, and conventions educating himself about women’s hair while a »

The Fox network is understandably very happy with their new Family Guy spin-off, The Cleveland Show. They've rewarded it with a very early pick-up.
In The Cleveland Show, Peter Griffin's pal Cleveland Brown (Mike Henry) moves back to his hometown in Virginia to get married. The animated series also stars Sanaa Lathan, Kevin Michael Richardson, Seth MacFarlane, Nia Long, Jason Sudeikis, Seth Green, Arianna Huffington, Alec Sulkin, John Viener, Reagan Gomez-Preston, and Aaron Krebs.
When the show premiered on September 27th, Fox had already been treating it like a hit. The show was given a greenlight and a 13 episode order in May 2008. Needing ample time to produce the animation, Cleveland was expected to debut by mid-season 2008-09.
In November 2008, Fox ordered additional nine episodes, bringing the first season total to 22. Character Cleveland Brown said in a »

Photo: Roadside Attractions Chris Rock brings us a solid documentary addressing the subject of African American women (and men to a much lesser degree) and their approach to hair care in the aptly titled Good Hair. I'm not sure if he knew what he was getting into or just didn't want to create too much of a stir, but while Rock takes a comical, yet understanding, approach to what would appear to be a superficial subject he unearths some details that are rather shocking but never veers too far off the established path.
Spending about 45-minutes on hair relaxer and another 30 minutes on weaves and extensions before the ultimate finale, Good Hair ranges from local barbershops and big-time hair conventions to intimate conversations with stars such as Meagan Good, Nia Long, Eve and rap group Salt 'n' Pepa. Things shift gears, however, during an eye-opening »

A field trip to a hair salon with her Brownie troop when she was younger left a lasting impression on Nia Long, who vividly recalls the stylist’s confusion upon seeing the only African-American among the group of girls.
“[She] was just scared to death,” Nia explains to Essence. “She didn’t know what to do; I had a big Afro. It was horrific.”
Fortunately, Nia — who can be seen in Chris Rock’s new film Good Hair, a documentary that explores the complexities surrounding black women and their hair — notes that her childhood experience has made her »

Chicago – Positioning himself as a informational bridge-builder, comedian Chris Rock explores the often complex social economics of African American hair, specifically the intense styling that is a borderline obsession for women of color.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
Traveling virtually throughout the world, Rock witnesses the channels of commerce, politics and even religious overtones in relationship to African American women (and to a lesser degree black men and all women) and their coiffure.
Using a black hair stylist’s convention as a centerpiece for the documentary, Rock plays the unbelieving observer as he goes from booth to booth at the convention. The highlight of the gathering is an elaborate presentation of stylists who put on broadway-style or hip hop shows with themes that communicate the technique variations of participating rock-star-like hair stylists.
”Good Hair,” a documentary moderated by Chris Rock, has a limited release October 9th, 2009. Check local theaters. Rated “PG-13.” Featuring interviews with Eve, »

Comedian interviews black celebrities to get behind the obsession with hair.
Chris Rock and Nia Long

Chris Rock is never one to shy away from pushing the boundaries of racial discussion in America. His HBO stand-up specials "Bring the Pain" and "Bigger and Blacker" are a testament to that. In his new documentary, "Good Hair," Rock continues to do so, all the while trying to answer his daughter's question: "Daddy, how come I don't have good hair?"
"One day, I was in the car with my daughter and her little girlfriend, who happened to be white, and she was raving about her girlfriend's hair, and she used the words 'good hair' to describe it, and it kind of made me jump a little bit," Rock said.
The film deals with African-American women's obsession with their hair, which ultimately sheds a light on their own images of beauty. »

History has repeated itself for Nia Long, who, after being raised by a single mother, is now bringing up her own son in a single-parent household as well. “It’s very interesting how we repeat patterns in our family,” she muses in a new interview with Spotlight to Nightlight.
Able to relate on an entirely new level, Nia notes her mother’s determination — in a situation far more dire than hers — serves as an inspiration in her own life.

Oh. My. God. A Natalie Wood Retro right here in NYC next week. Wheeeee. I'm bouncing up and down in my chair as I type. (I'll fix the resultant typos later).
If you've never seen Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice you'd be insane to miss it. "Oh, Insight!" I'd also suggest catching Inside Daisy Clover because it's a) really weird and b) all about Hollywood and c) they totally nominated the wrong supporting actress from it for the Oscar.
There's also the opportunity to see Rebel Without a Cause, Gypsy, This Property is Condemned or West Side Story on the big screen if you haven't. I have so I'll be trying to catch the ones I haven't laid eyes on yet: Tomorrow is Forever (1946) with Claudette Colbert, the controversial hard to find Kings Go Forth (1958) with Frank Sinatra and Peeper (1975) with Michael Caine. Why can't this series last longer than a week. »

Actress Nia Long has stripped off as part of a new advertising campaign for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
The Big Momma's House star poses in a subway train with just a pole and a newspaper covering her modesty for the charity's latest anti-fur promo.
Long says, "When I became a mother I started to really understand the importance of all living creatures in a way that I didn't ever think about before."
The 39 year old is following in the footsteps of Eva Mendes and Pamela Anderson, who have both shot adverts for the same campaign in the past. »

Nia Long is the latest actress who bares her body for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)'s anti-fur ad campaign. In the latest poster for the organization's "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" cause, she is photographed standing nude in the middle of a New York City subway vehicle, holding a newspaper to cover her breasts and crossing her legs in between a pipe to hide her private part.
"When I became a mother, I started to really understand the importance of all living creatures in a way that I didn't ever think about before," Nia says of what prompting her to join PETA's anti-fur cause. "And I've realized how important it is that we really take responsibility for ... treating animals with love and care just like we would any human being. There's no difference, in my opinion, [between fur and] slavery or the Holocaust. It's just that we're not dealing with human beings, »

Editors at British magazine Pride have apologised to actress Nia Long for "manipulating" comments she made about Beyonce Knowles' acting skills.
Long reportedly took aim at Beyonce as part of a rant about musicians who make movies, stating, "If you're a singer, not an actress, you should sing. If you're a rapper, you should rap."
And she appeared to suggest the former Destiny's Child star should take acting lessons, when asked to comment on the singer's recent film Obsessed.
Long told the magazine, "I didn't see Obsessed, so I can’t comment, but it's just not about how talented you are anymore. It's about, 'How much box-office revenue will this person generate.'
"When you see certain people... they just don't have the skill, and no one in their team has said, 'You need acting classes.'"
That was two weeks ago and now Pride editors are keen to clear the air over the article.
A magazine statement reads, "Pride would like to apologise for the fact that editing of the final article may have left Nia’s comments open to tabloid manipulation.
"As Europe’s premier publication for the woman of colour, Pride seeks only to celebrate the achievements of celebrities such as Nia Long and Beyonce Knowles, and hope no offence has been caused through the media speculation." »
