The new issue of TV Guide has William Petersen talking about his imminent departure from CSI. He's being replaced by the great Laurence Fishburne. But the interesting thing is that in the process of saying goodbyes to his audience, Petersen also dropped a few hints about the possibility of a CSI movie. When asked if the next step for his career was returning to movies, Petersen said, "If this was about going off and making films, I'd stay on CSI. I'd love to see us make a CSI film." His implication there, it would seem, is that if he'd stuck around they might be putting together a CSI feature. In fact, it sounds like the possibility of making a movie is one of the reasons they aren't killing him off. He says, "That's the other reason Grissom isn't going to die of a brain tumor." I've never watched an episode

The topic of torture is a hot-button issue in today’s America, with the legality of waterboarding and the tales of abuse at Guantanamo Bay bringing man’s inhumanity to man into the public eye like never before. Torture has also been a moneymaker in films, with the Saw franchise milking five installments out of the grisly pleasure of the act. So we were somewhat surprised that Tortured, a new film with a fairly A-list cast including Laurence Fishburne, Jon Cryer and Cole Hauser went directly to DVD. Directed by Nolan Lebovitz, whose only previous credit was 2003’s gynecological comedy Dr. Benny, Tortured most certainly didn’t deserve the direct-to-video treatment – read on.

Actor Laurence Fishburne has praised William Petersen since replacing his character on hit U.S. TV show CSI: Crime Scene Investigation - because he raised standards for television.
Petersen - one of the show's original cast members - is set to leave his post as crime investigator Gil Grissom, though he will remain an executive producer on the series.
His absence is marked by Fishburne's debut in the show's forthcoming 10th season next month.
Presenting an award at Sunday's 60th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, Petersen said: "I'm honoured to hand over the keys to the lab to a wonderful actor and a new friend, Mister Laurence Fishburne."
The actor responded by humbly adding: "Thank you Billy, I just hope I can live up to the high standards you've set not only for the first CSI series but for the many CSI series that have followed in your footsteps."

The men left all the color to the ladies on the red carpet at the Emmys last night, keeping it tame in their dapper suits and tuxes. True to form, the Entourage boys walked and posed together, while Jeremy Piven and John Krasinski held their own with their hands in their pockets. Diddy hammed it up as usual, and Patrick Dempsey, Jon Hamm, and Neil Patrick Harris added just a little more dreaminess to the equation. Mark Wahlberg took a break from his newborn baby boy to hit the red carpet. While most of them played it safe this time around, bonus points all around to the guys for successfully putting their handsome selves together. Oprah wowed in red as she opened the show after the cool What's my line? clip but unfortunately following her was the reality hosts talking about nothing. It was almost as uncomfortable as watching Ricky Gervais ask for his Emmy back from Steve Carell. Yes it was funny but I was getting a bit worried that Steve was going to cry or beat the crap out of him. Other quick thoughts: Steve Martin, Genius. Josh Groban, surprisingly cool! Neil Patrick Harris and Kristin Chenoweth, favorite presenting couple. Cruel joke that was perfect — making reality TV host category wait until after the commercial break to see who won. Desperate Housewives all dolled up. Yay Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin and Mad Men! Click here for all the winners from last night. As for next year, let's hope the Emmys settle on one host since this year's group was like an experiment gone bad.

Actor Paul Reubens has denied reports he will make a return to TV opposite Laurence Fishburne in hit U.S. show CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
The Pee-wee Herman star was rumoured to have been recruited by Fishburne after the actor was cast in the series to replace William Petersen earlier this month.
A source tells the National Enquirer that Fishburne wanted Reubens "to play... a psychopathic killer after something goes horribly wrong in his life," in a bid to help the actor revive his career, adding, "The only person who can possibly reach him is Fishburne."
But Reubens' spokesperson Carrie Byalick has denied the reports, telling WENN: "That story is false."

One movie I did not like was Emilio Estevez's Bobby. As a film I thought Estevez managed to tell a story of a large amount of people I didn't care one bit about, that is outside of Lawrence Fishburne and his kitchen staff and a performance by Freddy Rodriguez that went largely ignored even though I thought it was one of the best performances of 2006 (not like there were a ton to choose from anyway). Then again, there wasn't a ton of love for the film one way or another as the Rotten Tomatoes score reads a pitiful 44%. Basically, it's just too bad a film about such an amazing man was limited to the stories of a bunch of inconsequential people. I understood Estevez's goal, and it was a good idea, it just wasn't executed all that well. The role of Bobby Kennedy also played a small role in

Playing himself in "Elegy" wasn't as easy for Charlie Rose as it looks on screen. "It was all scripted," the talk-show host laughed after the Cinema Society premiere on Tuesday. His questions to a horny literature professor played by Ben Kingsley were a lot shorter than in real life. At the after-party at Socialista, Penelope Cruz wore a low-cut dress showing off the "perfect breasts" Kingsley admires in the movie. Also toasting co-stars Dennis Hopper, Patricia Clarkson, Debbie Harry and director Isabel Coixet were Laurence Fishburne,

Othello director Oliver Parker trims about 50 percent of the text, delivering an audience-friendly two-hour running time without muddling the play’s clear plotting. His script severely restricts the dialogue entrusted to Desdemona (played by Irène Jacob) and handicaps Laurence Fishburne, who exudes hearty sexual swagger and adopts a rich, almost Caribbean accent, but pentameters are alien to an actor more at home in the expletive-ridden worlds of 1990s thrillers like King of New York.

Katie Couric is keeping her anchor chair at the "CBS Evening News" - at least for now.
"We have no plans to part company any time soon," Couric told TV critics in La yesterday via satellite.
"There were a lot of speculative pieces that I think got spun out of control - and clearly when you work for an organization, you have ongoing discussions," she said.
"But I am very committed to the people here and very committed to the product."
Rumors about Couric's imminent departure have been flying for months as her third-place newscast continues to struggle for viewers.

The Matrix star Laurence Fishburne is set to bring best-selling book The Alchemist to the big screen - directing and starring in a new Hollywood adaptation.
Fishburne has teamed up with movie mogul Harvey Weinstein to get the $60 million (GBP30 million) project into production.
The tome, by Paul Coehlo, which has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 67 languages, focuses on the story of a shepherd boy who travels across the Egyptian desert in search of treasure, but meets an alchemist who teaches him the meaning of life.
And Weinstein believes the movie's themes could help heal rifts between the Western world and the Middle East.
Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival, he says, "It is a book I have been truly inspired by and I have agreed to personally produce it. The Alchemist is simple and spiritual, and the screenplay will reflect that. The book means so much to people on a spiritual level yet there is also a great love story in it. It is an incredibly moving, emotional story.
"I think this story will act as a bridge to the Middle East. In the Middle East, the book has been an overwhelming success. That is a world that we need to know more about an extend a bridge to. This movie could be a healer in that region, bringing the West and the East together, especially the Middle East."
Fishburne is set to play the alchemist of the title, and Weinstein is keen to cast Penelope Cruz in his latest project: "One way or another I'm finding a part for Penelope Cruz."
