Willem Dafoe was left red faced in front of his Hollywood peers at the Gotham Independent Film Awards when actress Rosie Perez commented on the size of his manhood while presenting an award.
Dafoe's latest movie Antichrist wasn't nominated for any awards at the New York ceremony, but Perez made sure to mention the actor's full frontal scene when she stepped onstage to present the Best Director accolade on Monday night.
Perez singled out Dafoe in the audience and candidly asked if the size of his manhood in the movie "was the real thing", prompting the embarrassed star to nod - but the outspoken actress' attempt to draw laughs from the shocked crowd fell flat.
A guest tells the New York Daily News, "The audience was absolutely silent. She was completely inappropriate, and everyone looked really uncomfortable." »

Lionsgate Films has once again shared some sneak peeks at drama thriller "Daybreakers" through an international trailer and a brand new TV spot. Though the two snippets featured different footage, both clips give a look at more action scenes that can been seen in the film while some of the characters are trying to save human population in Earth.
In 2019, a plague transforms the world's population into vampires. As the human population nears extinction, the vampires try to survive by farming the remaining humans or find a blood substitute before time runs out. Coming from writer-director duo, Peter and Michael Spierig, the film has two-time Academy Award nominee Ethan Hawke playing researcher Edward Dalton. Also among the cast are Willem Dafoe as Elvis, »

Short Version: Fantastic Mr. Fox is a pleasantly surprising film that is odd, witty, and probably more fun for adults than kids.
Screen Rant Reviews Fantastic Mr. Fox
I am not a Wes Anderson fan. Rushmore didn’t make me swoon; The Royal Tenenbaums made me groan; The Life Aquatic was no “masterpiece” far as I could tell and I didn’t even bother with The Darjeeling Limited. In fact, everything Anderson has done after Bottle Rocket has ultimately fallen on my cinematic bad side. Hearing his name brought up in classrooms and discussed as if he is the Shakespeare of cinema has only compounded that antagonism. If we were to play the word association game and you said “Wes Anderson” my immediate response would likely be “Pretentious and overrated.”
I went to see Fantastic Mr. Fox because, frankly, somebody on the site needed to review it. I wasn’t expecting much. »

Like it or not, comic book movies have sort of defined popular cinema throughout this decade. Marvel (and DC to some degree) have been pumping out multiple superhero films a year, taking advantage of the initial success of X-Men and Spider-Man, and completely dominating the summer box office. While the formula may have gotten stale and uninspired for the most part, there is the occasional comic book film that has managed to elevate the source material beyond a simple franchise cash cow, looking to secure a long line of sequels, prequels and reboots. One of those films, in my opinion, is Spider-Man 2. (Yes. A Sequel.) I'm not entirely sure what it is about this film that worked so well for me. Maybe its rewatchability has bumped it up a bit as merely the "super hero film I've watched the most", but I truly do feel that Sam Raimi's »

The January release date is not encouraging, but I like this trailer. I like the new take on the very old vampire tropes. I like that this is from brothers Michael and Peter Spierig, who made the surprisingly poignant Undead on the cheap a few years ago in Australia. Now, it they’ve got names (Willem Dafoe, Ethan Hawke, Sam Neill) and a budget. I’m excited to see what they can do with that. Daybreakers opens in the U.S. on January 8, 2010; no U.K. release date has been announced. »

Nobody in the film business has had as good a decade as the folks at Pixar Animation Studios. They released seven films in ten years, all of them box office hits, all of them critical successes. Four of them won Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature (and the past summer's "Up" stands a good chance to make it five).
Because of the studio's incredible run of creativity, Pixar filmmakers are often asked to explain the secret of the company's success. In an interview with Movie City News' David Poland, "Finding Nemo" and "Wall-e" director Andrew Stanton cited a meeting the company's brain trust held shortly after the release of "Toy Story" to assess exactly what went right that time so that they could be sure to repeat that formula in the future. As Stanton explained it, "We felt that it was a weird, perfect symbiotic combination of there [being] one visionary »

In case you missed the live-Tweeting and live-blogging from last night's Gotham Independent Awards at NYC's Cipriani, we're here to help. Indie favorite The Hurt Locker took home the two big awards, Best Feature and Best Ensemble Performance, although The Maid's Catalina Saavedra snagged the award for Best Breakthrough Actor, beating out The Hurt Locker's Jeremy Renner, Ben Foster (The Messenger), Patton Oswalt (Big Fan), and Souleymane Sy Savane (Goodbye Solo). Robert Siegel, who also wrote The Wrestler and wrote and directed Big Fan, snatched the Breakthrough Director award from The Hurt Locker's Kathryn Bigelow and the Coens.
Meanwhile, the stomach-churningly fascinating Food Inc. won best doc for its close look at how what's on our plates really got there, and how big biz helped (or harmed, as the case may be). And the Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You award went to You Wont Miss Me, »

It was a celebration of movies and acting in NYC last night at the Gotham Independent Film Awards. Ryan Reynolds hit the red carpet solo looking dapper in his vest while Brooke Shields stood close to Rosie Perez and Alec Baldwin posed with Richard Kind. Alec recently said he would be retiring from acting in a couple of years, but first he's out to promote It's Complicated out this month. He also has a big award show to host this season when he and Steve Martin take on the Oscars together. Natalie Portman showed some skin before being honored during the show just days before her new film, Brothers, hits theaters. The night's big winner was The Hurt Locker while Stanley Tucci was also one of the night's honorees along with Portman. Chris Rock came out to support his documentary Good Hair, though the prize went to Food, Inc. The »

Catalina Saavedra in The Maid (top); Stella Schnabel in You Won’t Miss Me (middle); The Hurt Locker by Kathryn Bigelow (bottom) "Kudos to you, great performance," Rosie Perez told Willem Dafoe, after saying that Lars von Trier’s Antichrist, a dark, sex-filled drama in which Dafoe co-stars with Charlotte Gainsbourg, was a "sick-ass movie." That was followed by: "Was that your … Oooohhhh. It was?" And so went the 2009 edition of the Gotham Awards, in which performers cracked jokes that would be unacceptable on network TV. Unfortunately, that didn’t necessarily make the jokes any funnier or the show any better than, say, the Oscars or the Golden Globes, but on the bright side some of the Gotham choices were [...] »

We haven't talked much about Daybreakers, the upcoming vampire film by writer/director siblings Michael and Peter Spierig, but the release of the film's extended TV trailer seems reason enough to shed some light on it. The film stars Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe in a world where vampires rule, and humans are a minority hunted for blood. In the trailers it's revealed that the vampires blood supply is dwindling, and that they're searching for a synthetic blood substitute. There's also talk of a "cure"---apparently the worldwide vampirism was caused by a plague of some sort. I like the film's reversal by making vampires the dominant group, and overall it looks like a perfectly stylish blend of sci-fi and horror. Quite honestly, I was hoping we'd eventually see a film with this premise in the Blade universe, but we can thank David Goyer for running that into the ground with Blade: Trinity. »

Like its predecessor, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day is a rocking, firework popping action extravaganza that doesn’t add anything deep to the series but what it does is bring us the continuation of a cult classic that after 10 years hasn’t missed a beat.
It would be a disservice to harp on Troy Duffy’s issues getting this film made and the hoops it probably took for him to finally get it off the ground, but like its creator this film is messy, vulgar, violent and completely senseless but in way that’s lovable just like the its cult classic predecessor.
All Saints Day, brings us back together with fraternal twins Murphy (Norman Reedus) and Connor (Sean Patrick Flanery), who managed to escape back home to the hills of Ireland after their justice driven vigilante kill spree throughout Boston. A decade has passed but the drive to »

Fantastic Mr. Fox Directed by: Wes Anderson Written by: Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach (screenplay), Roald Dahl (book) Starring: George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Eric Anderson, Michael Gambon, Willem Dafoe At the beginning of the decade, Wes Anderson was being praised as one of the most unique and talented emerging filmmakers in America. The Royal Tenenbaums was seen by many as his ultimate masterpiece, earning his only Academy Award nomination to date. However, since then, he has arguably become a victim of his own success. Surrounded by copycats and increasingly cynical audiences, he has struggled to break from the mold that he created for himself. Although I enjoyed both The Life Aquatic and The Darjeeling Limited a great deal, I can't deny that Wes Anderson's style was starting to feel more like a predictable checklist and less like the mark of an auteur. He was stuck in a rut, »
