Win Fawlty Towers Special Edition Remastered DVD Set

7 November 2009 10:03 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Are you a fan of Fawlty Towers? Ever even heard of the show? Well it’s where John Cleese headed for a brief time after Monty Python back in 1975 and 1979. The show only ran for 12 episodes, but every single one of them is hysterical, and many are funny enough to bring tears to your eyes (that’s not PR, that’s my opinion). Fawlty Towers also starred Prunella Scales, Connie Both and Andrew Sachs.

Well it’s the 30th anniversary of the show and the episodes are being re-released in a special edition, remastered DVD set – and we have four (4) copies to give away!

Here’s the official description and background on the British TV series:

Hot off the runaway success of Monty Python’s Flying Circus, John Cleese embarked on his now-legendary sitcom, Fawlty Towers, . One of the most memorable and best-loved characters in British comedy, Basil Fawlty is a much put-upon, »

The American Film Market: 10 Mindblowing, Modestly Budgeted Movies to Watch

6 November 2009 2:00 PM, PST | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

Perusing the trade papers during the yearly American Film Market, when thousands of buyers from all of the world descend upon Santa Monica to pick over a buffet of independent, straight-to-video, and international movie fare, is a real treat, as both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter are glutted with ads for low-budgeted curiosities propped up by recognizable talent that you may one day stumble across at the multiplex, or, much more likely, in the deepest, darkest corners of your Netflix recommendations pages. (There was a time we would've said "on the shelves of your local Blockbuster, but, uh, yeah.) To save you the time of thumbing through the trades yourself to pan for obscure cinematic gold, Movieline has assembled the best of this year's Afm ads so far, leaving you with nothing to do but pray that each finds the completion financing or distribution it needs to one day land »

What If The Batmobile Was Designed By 'Alien' Artist H.R. Giger?

3 November 2009 2:29 PM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Sure, Batman and various other comic book characters have battled the creatures from the "Alien" movie franchise on more than one occasion (my favorite being Warren Ellis' "WildC.A.T.S/Aliens" story), but here's a crossover I never expected to see—and never will see, most likely.

According to BatmobileHistory.com, one of the designers contacted to create a new version of the Batmobile for 1995's "Batman Forever" (starring Val Kilmer as Bruce Wayne) was none other than Swiss artist H.R. Giger, best known for creating the original, techno-organic design of the "Alien" creatures.

SuperPunch has also managed to locate a few pieces of Giger's early design art for the vehicle, which I've posted after the jump.

"H.R. Giger was contacted in 1994 to design a Batmobile for Batman Forever," reports BatmobileHistory. "His unique 'X' shaped design was to include articulated front legs/mandibles, retractable fins, and gatling gun »

Bravo's 'Million Dollar Listing' -- Guilty pleasure alert!

3 November 2009 12:37 PM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Let me start by saying that I don't really believe in the whole idea of "guilty pleasures". If you like Hall & Oates, there's no shame in that. If it's re-runs of 21 Jump Street that float your boat, more power to you. Addicted to Val Kilmer-Mira Sorvino vision-impaired romantic comedies? I say, live and let live. That said, lately, I've become totally hooked on a show that I know in my bones is dreadful and indefensible,  but I can't stop watching. I'm talking about Bravo's Million Dollar Listing -- the greedy, status-obsessed, brain-dead stepchild to the network's classier Flipping »

In Desperate Need of More Cuba? Wrong Turn At Tahoe Can Help.

3 November 2009 9:28 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Forget what you may have heard to the contrary — Cuba Gooding, Jr. is the hardest working man in show business. Well, he’s the hardest working man in direct-to-video cinema, anyway. If his seriously dodgy Val Kilmer co-op “Hard Wired” wasn’t enough to satisfy your unnatural craving for Cuba’s patented brand of second-tier action, you’ll only have to wait a few weeks to enjoy Franck Khalfoun’s “Wrong Turn at Tahoe,” which co-stars Harvey Keitel and Miguel Ferrer. If this release doesn’t cement the man’s place at the top of the Stv pile, I don’t know what will. After all, when you’re releasing more movies per year than the likes of Steven Seagal and Val Kilmer, that has to account for something, right? Here’s the lowdown on the plot: Love. Honor. Power. Fear of death… People live for all kinds of reasons. »

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harlin also is producing the project with George Lascu, Michael P. Flannigan and David Imedashvili. Actor Nicolas Cage has cancelled his appearance at a New York screening of his new film Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans as he grieves the death of his father, August Coppola.

The retired college dean, and brother of filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, suffered a fatal heart attack on Tuesday, aged 75.

Cage laid his dad to rest on Thursday, alongside family and friends at the Christ the King Church in Hollywood, California.

He was set to walk the red carpet alongside co-stars Val Kilmer and Eva Mendes days later, at the 8 November event - but has now bowed out of the screening, reports the New York Post.

A spokesperson for Cage had not responded to requests for comment as WENN went to press. »

Coroner’s Report: The Thaw

29 October 2009 3:58 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Part of the Ghosthouse Underground series, Thaw is another entry in the burgeoning Global Warming Terror category which features Val Kilmer in a small role as a professor-slash-possible eco-terrorist.  You know, the whole the Earth is way more important than people argument.  I love the Earth and nature as much as the next guy, but unless it involves killer animals, eco-horror generally isn't my thing. Thaw kicks off when Kilmer and his team discover a thawing mastodon during their research project.  Unleashed from the brain of the animal come small "vertebrate" bug like creatures come out and start laying down their infection game on the scientists.  This might not be all that bad, if not for a group of students (including Kilmer's daughter) show up to learn from the climate master.  Unsurprisingly, the bugs start spreading death and disease among them and they turn on each other. Georgia Rule

28 October 2009 10:40 AM, PDT | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

Some directors bounce back from a roster of cinematic turkeys, but the combined effect of Cutthroat Island, The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, and Driven seem to have invoked a "three strikes and you're out" rule for Renny Harlin. The onetime top director has spent the last few years making films like The Covenant and the John Cena starrer 12 Rounds, and he's now set Val Kilmer and Emmanuelle Chriqui to star in Georgia, a war film about last year's military conflict between Russia and Georgia. Renny Harlin Takes Val Kilmer and Emmanuelle Chriqui to Georgia

28 October 2009 8:21 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

We wrote a couple months ago about Renny Harlin's upcoming film about the 2008 conflict between Georgia and Russia. Now, as then, I'm interested in the film to see if Harlin can take what made a few of his films really entertaining (I'm thinking of Cliffhanger, Deep Blue Sea and The Long Kiss Goodnight) and apply it to something that isn't so flashy. Can he come up with a film that's actually good? It's been a while. Today he's got some of the cast lined up for the picture, which we now know will be called simply Georgia. Val Kilmer and Entourage's Emmanuelle Chriqui are the leads in the film, says THR. Kilmer is a journalist covering the conflict; Chriqui is a Georgian grad student who becomes 'entangled' with Kilmer and his cameraman. We'd previously known that the film is about "an American journalist and his cameraman who arrive »

Chriqui and Kilmer Join War Film

28 October 2009 6:36 AM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Here’s a recipe for … well, I’m not sure what dish this will make, but it’ll certainly be interesting: Emmanuelle Chriqui, a recurring actor on Entourage, and Val Kilmer (Tombstone) have joined forces with director Renny Harlin for the leading roles in Georgia, Harlin’s new war film.

According to THR, the film centers around “an American journalist (Kilmer) and his cameraman caught in the crossfire of  covering last year’s military conflict between Russia and Georgia … [as well as] a Georgia native (Chriqui) and doctoral student who becomes entangled with them.”

While this certainly doesn’t represent Harlin’s average action fare, I’m not entirely convinced that the man has ever made a good film in his life. When the closest you come to a good film is the lackluster Die Hard 2 or the redeemably cheesy Deep Blue Sea, you know your track record is somewhat worse for the wear. »

Chriqui in Georgia

"Entourage" hottie and my future wife, Emmanuelle Chriqui has been cast alongside Val Kilmer in Georgia, which is not an in-depth exploration of the peach industry, but rather a film that chronicles the recent conflict in the ex-Soviet state. Chriqui will play a Georgian native whose path crosses with an American journalist (Kilmer) during the Russian/Georgian military conflict. Not a bad turnaround time considering the entire event happened just a little over a year ago. The film... »

Emmanuelle Chriqui Heads To Georgia

28 October 2009 12:06 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

The dust may still be settling on Russia's conflict with Georgia, but Renny Harlin isn't messing about, with Georgia, his (anti)war movie set during the war, picking up another cast member in the shapely form of Emmanuelle Chriqui. Chriqui, best known as Eric's girlfriend Sloan in Entourage, will play a local woman who becomes entangled with an American journalist (Val Kilmer) and cameraman assigned to cover Georgia's 2008 assault on the Russian-backed Republic of South Ossetia. Andy Garcia will play Georgia president Mikheil Saakashvili. It's political sensitive terrain - the war left more than 100,000 homeless and left deep rifts between the two countries - so it will no doubt call on a different side to the Harlin oeuvre. As executive producer Michael Flannigan told Georgian television: "Our main concern was to show war as a bad thing. We had an opportunity to make a really anti-war film." In other words, »

News & Notes: Steve Carell, Slammin’ Salmon, Shattered Union

27 October 2009 11:40 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

There is plenty of news and whatnots happening in the world of film this evening, so we thought we'd throw together a quick round of News & Notes, so that you can keep it all straight. We start, as we always do, with something mildly interesting. As per my newly fashioned format, the first few words of each item serve as the link to the source. Just give them a click to read more. Steve Carell is working on a new comedy for Warner Bros., entitled Missing Links. He will play a golfer who joins fellow municipal course schlubs to take a shot at the country club down the road. Very original. (THR) The Cup of Tears is a new sci-fi samurai flick that we picked up via our friends over at First Showing. It is more than a little badass, mixing the aesthetic of 300 with the badassery that Ninja Assassin could've only hoped to achieve. (First »

Emmanuelle Chriqui Joins Val Kilmer in Renny Harlin’s Georgia

27 October 2009 11:19 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Before we continue, Renny Harlin’s upcoming film “Georgia” is not about The Peach State and the tale how Coca-Cola will one day flow out of our drinking fountains.  “Georgia” is based on last year’s conflict between Russia and the country of Georgia.  THR reports that hottie/red-carpet eye candy Emmanuelle Chriqui will play opposite Val Kilmer in the drama about an American journalist (Kilmer) and his cameraman caught in the crossfire and a Georgia native (Chriqui) and doctoral student who becomes entangled with them.

Chriqui is best known for her role on “Entourage” playing the love interest of Kevin Connolly’s character, Eric.  Since “Entourage’ is a fantasy, I believe the most recent episode featured a tearful goodbye between them before Eric had to go and drop the The One Ring into Mount Doom.  Kilmer has appeared in numerous roles but he has a lifetime free pass from »

Emmanuelle Chriqui and Val Kilmer Head to Georgia for Renny Harlin

27 October 2009 9:10 PM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

It may be hard to believe now, but once upon a time Renny Harlin was an in-demand action movie director, having directed hits like “Die Hard 2″, “Cliffhanger”, and “The Long Kiss Goodnight”. More recently, not so much. Harlin hasn’t exactly had the best of resumes in the last few years, with junk like “The Covenant” and “12 Rounds” to his credit. He’s looking to rise from direct-to-dvd hell (and bad movies starring wrestlers) with the kinda-current themed “Georgia”, a war drama that will be set in the country of Georgia and star Val Kilmer as a journalist covering the recent Russia-Georgia conflict. “Entourage” star Emmanuelle Chriqui (who can also be seen in the delightful sounding “Women in Trouble”) has now been added to the cast as a Georgian native and doctoral student who becomes tangled up with Kilmer and his cameraman during the event. Harlin will produce and direct the movie, »
