It’s the season to make it or break it. Even though the news isn’t a surprise, Fox cut ties with the Joss Whedon-created series, “Dollhouse.” ABC also decided to drop “Hank.”
The sci-fi series, which is filming episode 11, is expected to finish its 13-episode order. The 13th episode will serve as the series finale, and Whedon plans to end the show “in a significant way.” The Friday night show barely came back for a second season this fall.
Fox pulled “Dollhouse” from its November sweeps schedule after its opening four episodes drew an average of only 3.08 million viewers. The next episode will run on Dec. 4, and the series finale is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 22.
“Hank” was ABC’s weakest link in its block of new Wednesday-night comedies. The freshman comedy starring Kelsey Grammer is filming its 10th episode but will stop production after wrapping that episode. Five »

Cameron Diaz doesn't have a problem playing a goofy girlfriend or an animated ogre, but she also can handle a thriller.
In her new flick "The Box," she plays a literature teacher. Diaz's character teaches a class where students discuss the play "No Exit" by Jean Paul Sartre and the concept of "Hell is other people."

One wonders why The Box is released now, during Oscar season and not buried in shame in January or February. This clumsily morbid .thriller. never gets its groove on in the seemingly endless 115 minutes of its existence, despite stars Cameron Diaz and James Marsden, two talented actors, working on what seems an interesting premise . push a secret button, someone in the world dies and you get $1M, tax free. But no, they had to get silly, fancy, ahead of themselves. The story loses its way careening from sloppy romantic tragedy to slick, over inflated sci-fi epic to domestic tragedy leading to mind numbing inanity. When Frank Langella shows up with half his face missing and teeth »

The Box Directed by Richard Kelly Anyone expecting Donnie Darko and Southland Tales director Richard Kelly to finally dial back on his idiosyncrasies in service of a familiar conceit may be surprised to find his peculiar voice very much present in The Box, his third feature. Where initial reports suggested a fairly conventional take on the Twilight Zone-tackled Richard Matheson story "Button, Button," we instead get a warped morality tale dripping with style and jutting out with potential energy in every direction - for better and worse. Cameron Diaz and X-Men's James Marsden star as Norma and Arthur Lewis, a loving married couple living in Langley, Virginia in 1976, where Arthur works for Nasa on their Mars technology and Norma teaches. They're both staring down at financial crises on the day a mysterious stranger (Frank Langella) with a huge facial scar arrives on their doorstep, his appearance preceded by »

Sure, technically Jim Carrey and company won the weekend with the 3D animated adventure A Christmas Carol, but the real reason everyone’s talking about this weekend’s box office is because of another movie’s totals.
Remember a few weeks ago when I was talking about how unbelievable it was that Paranormal Activity had a per screen average of $44,000? Well a little indie called Precious came in and mopped the floor with those totals. Precious played in just 18 theaters and grossed $1.8 million. Folks, that’s a $100,000 per screen average. To put that in perspective, if A Christmas Carol had the same per screen average, it would have grossed over $360 million (instead of $31 million).
This indicates a high degree of interest in the movie, and this weekend’s total will only add to that. Additionally, some people have been throwing around the “O” word, as in Oscar. It received a standing ovation at Cannes, »

About a week ago a colleague of mine asked why in the world I wanted to go see The Box. I explained that I found the premise fascinating. What if you were told that if you pushed a certain button, you would get a million dollars, but there is a catch. When you push the button, somebody you do not know will die. What would you do?
Therein lies the premise of The Box. This is the third film by Richard Kelly, who garnered cult-like status with Donnie Darko (2001), then wide ridicule for his follow up Southland Tales (2006). Lots of movie types were looking toward this movie to determine whether Kelly is a gifted director, or a one hit wonder. I’m sorry to tell you after viewing this convoluted mess, it seems like a case of the director having no clothes. It’s one thing to be a little avant-garde with your vision, »

Michael Jackson documentary moonwalks into second place behind big-budget retelling of classic Christmas story.

Box-Office Top Five
#1 "A Christmas Carol" ($31 million)
#2 "Michael Jackson's This Is It" ($14 million)
#3 "The Men Who Stare at Goats" ($13.3 million)
#4 "The Fourth Kind" ($12.5 million)
#5 "Paranormal Activity" ($8.6 million)
Despite the first-place finish of Robert Zemeckis's 3-D representation of "A Christmas Carol," yuletide cheer seemed halfhearted at the weekend box office. Given Jim Carrey's star power, the movie's $200 million budget and the potential family-crowd draw, the $31 million debut from "A Christmas Carol" is a disappointing result for the Disney version of the Charles Dickens classic.
Second place went to "Michael Jackson's This Is It," which earned less than half as much as the first-place finisher. Winding down Friday evening in fourth place, "This Is It" wound up in the #2 slot thanks »

Richard Kelly's new thriller is set in the 70s because people had more anonymity then.
The director's latest film 'The Box' stars Cameron Diaz and James Marsden as a struggling couple who are delivered a box by a mysterious man called Arlington Steward (Frank Langella).
He offers them a deal - if they open the box and push the button inside, they will get $1 million in cash. However, pushing the button will kill one person in the world - somebody they don't know.
'Donnie Darko' director Richard explained: "The concept of someone you don't know, which is inherent to the premise, doesn't really exist anymore.
"With modern kinds of social networking sites and Google satellite maps and like all of the surveillance technology that we have today. Norma could sit down and Google the name Arlington Steward and sit in front of her laptop for half the movie. »

Oscar the Grouch had better behave - and keep his political opinions to himself. On Tuesday, to mark the 40th anniversary of the groundbreaking children's program Sesame Street, some very special guests pay a visit, including First Lady Michelle Obama. According to previews circulating the Net, she meets Big Bird - who observes that the two of them are tall. Mrs. Obama also delivers a message that may not entirely sit well with Cookie Monster. Appearing with three kids and the show's fuzzy, red resident Elmo, she encourages them to plant seeds in the ground, water them and then expect them to sprout tomatoes, »

If you’re a fan of writer-director Richard Kelly, or even just mildly interested in his career, the trailers for “The Box” might convince you it’s the kind of movie everyone was waiting for him to make. After two confusing and overindulgent films (cult favorite “Donnie Darko”, and the not-so-cult favorite “Southland Tales”), “The Box” promised to be a smart, simple, taut thriller that wouldn’t take an advanced degree to fully comprehend. Unfortunately, it’s really just another trademark Richard Kelly film, drowning in oblique excess. Kelly has turned a simple premise into a wild conspiracy yarn involving the Viking Mars mission, sinister public libraries, the philosophy of Jean-Paul Sartre, mysterious nose bleeds, amputated toes, and towering blocks of CGI Jell-o that allow you to briefly pass through the afterlife. It’s almost as hilariously muddled as “Southland Tales”, with the key difference being that “Southland Tales” was trying to be funny. »

It was a jolly good weekend for "A Christmas Carol" starring Jim Carrey which led the weekend box-office charts with an underwhelming $31 million, less than what was expected but still enough to leave "The Box" starring Cameron Diaz and James Marsden partically unwrapped with a measly $7.9 million, putting it sixth place on the chart. Michael Jackson's "This It It" brought in another load of cash with a solid $14 million to put the film in second place. "The Fourth Kind" didn't exactly invade the chart, but it still managed to pull in a considerable $12.5 million to put in the fourth place position. Finally, George Clooney's "The Men Who Stare At Goats" did better than expected, coming in third with a nice $13.3 million. Not bad for a film starring goats, eh?

Cameron Diaz knows best when it comes to self confidence as she has stated that she won't hate herself because of people's negative opinion toward her. "I don't think that self-deprecation is healthy for people," she says.
"I think you should have a healthy relationship with yourself. We all have our up days and our down days. But I'm not going to walk through this world hating myself because somebody doesn't like me or doesn't think I'm pretty or that I should be ashamed that people think that I'm pretty," she elaborates. "How am I going to live my life trying to figure out what everybody else feels about me? All I can do is know how I feel about myself."
"I don't have to prove anything to anybody," continues the movie beauty. "I know who I am. I have my own sense of myself. And the things that I do, »
