Miscellaneous Companies Submission Guides
This section is maintained by Peter Simeon
The web interface provides a very easy to use and convenient interface
to the IMDb additions system. This page describes how to update miscellaneous company
information directly via e-mail; it also provides an explanation for the
formats generated by the web updates system.
We recommend all contributors use the web based update system and avoid
the complexities of the direct email interface described below.
Character Sets
The character set you have to use is either ASCII or ISO-8859-1
depending on the data. If the data has accented characters such as äöñàé...
you must use the ISO-8859-1 character set for West European languages.
ISO data MUST be MIME compatible,
encoded using 'quoted printable' notation. This is usually a
setting in your mailer; if in doubt contact your local user support services.
No direct 8bit data, please, since many mail systems still drop these
characters silently.
Additions
All entries should be sent to <adds@imdb.com> with the subject
ADD
- mark the start of the data with the word:
COMPANY
- for each addition, include on a separate line an entry of the form:
<title>|<company>|(<service>)|
The <title> field is the name of the movie -
please try and use the name in the movies database if it already exists.
The <company> field is used to identify the company
that provided the service to the filmmakers.
The <service> field lists the service provided by the
company.
Example:
COMPANY
That Thing You Do! (1996)|Ocean Way|(recorded and mixed)
That Thing You Do! (1996)|Pacific Title|(opticals)
That Thing You Do! (1996)|Sound One|(adr recorded at)
That Thing You Do! (1996)|Technicolor|(dailies)
That Thing You Do! (1996)|The Complex|(recorded and mixed)
That Thing You Do! (1996)|Title House|(titles)
Corrections
- mark the start of the data with the word:
CORRECT-COMPANY
- include a description of your correction in a free text over as many
lines as you need
Alternativly you may now use the '!' notation. Use an exclamation mark at
the beginning of an entry to mark it as incorrect, for example
!That Thing You Do! (1996)|The Complex|(recorded and mixed)
That Thing You Do! (1996)|The Complex|(re-recorded and mixed)
specifies that the current entry for The Complex is incorrect. The second
entry adds the new, correct value, to the database.
